"House of Cards" creator Beau Willimon explains that, going into Season 3, he and his co-workers were intimidated as they planned the new season, according to a recent Entertainment Weekly interview.

"But what I say to all the writers as we start breaking a season, is by the end of the season I want us to be completely out of ideas. We don't have a single idea left on the table," Willimon said.

Willimon and his writers did not want to be repetitive.

"I don't want to repeat ourselves, and I'd rather take the risk of some people saying "Where's the 'House of Cards' from seasons one and two?" then play it safe and just become repetitious," he said. "So I think it's a little polarizing this season among the audience but I think that's a good thing." 

Willimon explains that in the show, the Russian leader Petrov was not meant to be a replica of Russia's real leader Vladimir Putin. He explains that no characters in the show are supposed to be exactly the same as people in real life.

"That said, we're trying to create an authentic world, where in this case international dynamics are so far afield from what they are in real life," he said.

Willimon explains that, when Petrov's character was first discussed, there was nothing really happening in Russia. He explains that the things that happen in the show with are coincidentally similar to how they are happening in real life.

In Season 3, viewers will notice Frank being more musical, but Willimon tells them not to worry, it will not be an over-the-top amount of singing.

"The guy can carry a tune. These little moments just where you're convinced this guy is a sociopathic automaton of destruction and power, you see him singing to himself the way you might while making a sandwich, and you find his humanity again. These little grace notes make him more layered in my opinion, and it's just fun to see him sing," Willimon said.

Viewers will see a very expensive bottle of vodka, costing $750,000. Willimon says in real life there are actually bottles of vodka that are that expensive.

Finally, in there will be a lot of body language for viewers to interpret. Frank will disrespect his father's grave and a Christ statue and Claire will have a meeting from an inappropriate place. 

"Well, we speak much louder with bodies than we do with our mouth," Willimon concluded.
