Xbox One vs PS4 Release Date, Specs, News: Xbox Live Crackdown Is Newest Way Microsoft Console Mirrors PlayStation 4
Although Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One are in the midst of a console war, it seems their game plans cannot help but overlap.
Recently, Xbox users complained about Microsoft revoking their Xbox Live privileges, including the ability to use Skype. Some believed that cursing during private Skype video chats were the cause of the banning, but Microsoft has released a statement explaining their reasoning.
"To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls," the statement said. "Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users. Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members."
Uploading content that is plagued with four-letter words via Xbox One's Upload Studio feature will get users kicked off Xbox Live, TechCrunch reports.
Similarly, PS4's Twitch.tv recently cracked down on gamers that were getting too racy with Playroom.
"FYI: We continue to moderate according to our Terms of Service. Non-gaming content is not allowed," Twitch Support said via Twitter. "Non-gaming content (c): If using PS4 Playroom, the content must be about games or gaming and within our ToS. Thanks for understanding."
The crackdown came after a husband and wife used Playroom to broadcast their living room activities, which included getting drunk and the wife getting naked. That account has reportedly been banned.
Both the PS4 and Xbox One sold over 1 million units within 24 hours of their releases (Nov. 15 and Nov. 22, respectively.)
Although dedicated gamers, Sony and Microsoft may want consumers to think the two consoles are different, the two have more in common than expected.
