‘Sister Wives’ Cast News: Fans Berate Robyn on Twitter Over Meri and Kody’s Divorce
TLC's hit reality series "Sister Wives" aired its highly anticipated season finale on March 1. In the episode, Kody Brown's first wife, Meri, explained why she sought to divorce him: "Robyn has her three kids from her previous marriage that we have wanted to get adopted by Kody," Meri said. "But to do that she'll need to have a legal marriage to Kody."
It is illegal to have more than one marriage under Nevada State Law, which is why Meri decided to end her 24-year marriage to Kody so her husband's fourth spiritual wife, Robyn, could lawfully marry him.
"I'm not going to lie -- it is a little bit scary for me doing this divorce," she said on Episode 10, "Divorce." "And having it really be for nothing as far as the possibility of not being able to adopt the kids."
Robyn's three children allegedly have an "unhealthy relationship" with their biological father. The Brown family wants to adopt the kids, but according to Meri, because polygamy is "looked down upon," she doubts they will be able to. Nonetheless, she felt it was worth a try.
Not everyone was happy about the changes to the Brown family structure. Janelle, Kody's third wife, admitted during her confessional, "The only emotion I was feeling was shock. I had no thoughts." She later told Kody, "I'm worried it would change the dynamic. I know it's irrational, [but] I'm worried somehow this would have you favor Robyn."
The episode concluded with Kody, Meri and Robyn in the lawyer's office where Meri signed the papers to end her loving and legal marriage to Kody.
The conclusion did not sit well with many fans who continue to reach out to the Brown family with questions about their current situation, and many are targeting Robyn with angry messages.
Messages from fans range from asking what her position now is in the wife hierarchy to accusing her of having scripted emotions.
Many fans were upset about how the divorce might affect Janelle.
"Another manipulative and self-serving move was blindsiding Janelle w/ marriage news. She kept sweet but we felt bad 4 her," @MApostate tweeted.
Robyn, who replies to fans on Twitter, has been overwhelmed by the hate mail.
She tweeted March 4, "So I tried something the last few days. I tried answering a lot hate messages and questions thrown my way from fans. It has taught me a few things. 1. Some people no matter the truth you tell them just WANT to hate. It seems to give them life. It was strange to watch."
She later tweeted, "I want to promise those people just seeking truth that if they ask me a real question without hate & without cruelty, I will try to answer."
The next season of "Sister Wives" returns to TLC in September.
