Verizon Nexus 6 Release Date: March 12 Confirmed with VoLTE and Android 5.1 Lollipop
The Google-branded Nexus 6 smartphone is almost certainly coming to Verizon this week.
Leaked Verizon promotional material confirms earlier reports that the Nexus 6 phablet would be launching March 12. Images posted by Reddit user Mh1781 show that, starting March 12, the Nexus 6 will be available for purchase "via web & direct fulfillment." Furthermore, consumers will be able to pick up the Nexus 6 "via all channels" from March 19 onwards. The information was further confirmed by an inside source to Phandroid.
Mh1781's pictures reveal other details about the Verizon Nexus 6. For starters, Verizon customers will only be able to purchase the Nexus 6 in the color Midnight Blue. There aren't any storage options either -- only the 32GB model will be launching through Verizon.
Those interested in buying the Nexus 6 will be able to grab one for $249.99 with a two-year contract, $29.16 per month through Verizon's Edge program, or $699.99 without a contract. Nexus 6 buyers will also get treated to six free trial months of Google Play music. Those looking for more storage (up to 64GB) or a different color will have to snatch the Nexus 6 through the Google Play store or one of the other carriers.
Bear in mind that Verizon hasn't confirmed the March 12 release date, but previous reports have also hinted at the date, and Mh1781's pictures seem to be in order.
Verizon is the last of the major four U.S. carriers to release the Nexus, which originally came out during November of last year.
The good news is that when the Nexus 6 releases on Verizon, it will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop onboard. This should come as a relief seeing as how the Nexus 6 has been out for a few months now and has actually received updates up to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop up from Android 5.0. Given the fact that Android 5.1 will be releasing during the week as well, and most likely first on Google Nexus devices like the Nexus 6, Verizon buyers can safely know that their handset will be running the latest firmware right out of the box.
The Verizon Nexus 6 will also reportedly come with VoLTE support.
Other than that, consumers can expect the same phablet that won over many reviewers with its Android Lollipop experience. With a 5.96-inch display, there's no doubt most will need two hands to operate the handset, and the Nexus 6's size was pretty much the only complaint most reviewers had. Underneath the hood lies a quad-core 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM. The Nexus 6 also comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
