Bill Cosby Rape Allegations: Comedian Releases Video Message Assuring Fans He will Continue his Tour
Bill Cosby released a video message Monday insisting he would still be performing his upcoming scheduled shows, according to E! News.
Cosby has been involved in a scandal after more than 20 women have accused him of sexual assault. The 77-year-old comedian denies any wrongdoing in text statements. This is the first time he has appeared on video to fans since the allegations came. The video appeared exclusively on ABC News' "Good Morning America" Monday morning.
Cosby, in the video, is talking to someone on the phone and says, "You know I'll be hilarious." He is wearing pajamas and sitting on a chair. The pajamas could be a signal the comedian is comfortable despite all of the accusations coming down on him.
The video looks like it is shot on a set resembling a living room. It looks more like a skit than an actual phone call between Cosby and a friend.
"Yes!" Cosby says to the person on the other end of the phone.
"I'm gonna be in Wheeling, West Virginia, Capitol Music Hall. Eight o'clock show, that's right. You know I'll be hilarious. Can't wait!"
Cosby looks excited and genuine in the video, seemingly focused on getting rid of distractions.
In the video, Cosby also embedded an announcement to fans: "Dear fans, I hope you enjoy my wonderful video message that's filled with laughter. ... Hey, hey, hey, I'm far from finished."
The "far from finished" comments have also been released in text statements, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cosby makes no mention of the women who have recently accused him in the video. Instead, he is trying to repair his reputation by using humor.
At a recent show in Canada, Cosby even made a joke about his situation. A woman was spotted by Cosby leaving her seat. When Cosby asked where she was going, she said she was going to get a drink and asked him if he would like one.
Cosby replied, "I already have one," showing her a bottle of water he had with him on stage. "You have to be careful about drinking around me." Some in the crowd gasped, but others clapped and laughed.
