'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2': 90,000 Fans Sign Petition for Remaster of Game
A Change.org petition exceeded its goal of 75,000 signatures calling for an HD remastered re-release of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," reports Forbes.
A remastered version of the "Call of Duty" game would be welcome as existing versions of the game are bombarded by hackers, making play less than enjoyable for gamers.
It is no surprise to see a remaster request from fans, as "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is easily the best in the series where the multiplayer experience is concerned.
Activision has released a new "Call of Duty" every year, which garners incredible sales. There's no doubt a remastered "Modern Warfare 2" would be a huge hit.
According to Forbes, Activision has a three year development cycle for "Call of Duty" games, switching between video game developer companies Treyarch (this year), Infinity Ward (2016) and Sledgehammer (last year and 2017). Between the three game developers, surely someone would have the time to work on a remaster of Modern Warfare.
The fan base for "Modern Warfare's" 1 and 2 is significant. A remastered bundle of both would be smart as likely 90 percent of the fan base considers these as the "best" "Call of Duty" to date.
The only potential problem: Activision might think releasing two games in the same year will dilute its base, but if the releases are done at different times, sales should be strong. It would help the gaming franchise more than it would hurt, according to Forbes.
The Change.org petition is addressed to Jason West, "CEO of Infinity Ward," but West had a terrible falling out with Activision, as did Vince Zampella, when the two left Infinity Ward, according to Forbes. West and Zampella defected to EA to create the multiplayer first-person shooter video game "Titanfall." It is unclear what kind of separation agreement was signed between West, Zampella and Activision. It can only be assumed that Activision has the right to remaster the first two Modern Warfare games created by the duo.
West has not currently commented about the petition.
