UFC Fighter Dead: Shane del Rosario Suffers Lethal Heart Attack
Some sad news from the world of UFC fighting today: boxer Shane del Rosario has reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack.
According to CagePotato, del Rosario suffered the heart attack on November 27th. Specifically, too, the heavyweight fighter went into "full cardiac collapse" and quickly became critically ill.
"Shane had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning. He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill. Our prayers are with him and his family," said del Rosario's manager, Jason House, in a statement.
After it was determined that there was no more brain functions, CBS News has reported that doctors have decided not to continue life support on the 30-year-old fighter. UFC commissioner Dana White then Tweeted, "RIP Shane del Rosario."
del Rosario's death is the latest in a series of tragic injuries and/or deaths in the UFC world. These deaths have caused officials to demand more strict regulations in the field, especially when it comes to player safety. In addition, it's not clear whether or not del Rosario's previous rib cage injury and the cardiovascular collapse are related. An autopsy will be conducted later next week, and the full results will be released shortly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the del Rosario family during what is, undoubtedly, a most difficult time. Currently, there are no public plans for a funeral that have been released, but we will keep you updated on any developments.
