‘Fashion Police’ Cast News: Kathy Griffin Weighs In On Giuliana Rancic Joke About Zendaya Coleman Joke and Why Kelly Osbourne Left Show
Once the E! series' post-Oscars episode of "Fashion Police" aired, co-host Giuliana Rancic received backlash for a comment she made about Zendaya Coleman's dreadlocks.
Kelly Osbourne consequently left the show because she didn't like how the network handled the matter. Giuliana apologized and Zendaya posted on Instagram that she accepted her apology.
Kathy Griffin, who joined "Fashion Police" this season as the late Joan Rivers' replacement, was asked by Chicago Sun-Times' Splash magazine if she thought the Coleman dreadlock comment would have caused such an uproar if she had said it instead of Rancic.
"Probably not. But I wouldn't have said the joke in the first place," she told this Sunday's Chicago Sun-Times' Splash magazine.
Griffin confirmed reports that a writer for the show had written the line about the dreadlocks for Rancic.
"Don't have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on 'Fashion Police,'" Griffin said regarding her co-host's reliance on show writers. "You have enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That's what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself."
Griffin understands what Rancic is going through all too well. In January, the comedian received fan backlash for a comment made on the show about Amal Alamuddin Clooney's attire at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards. She said Clooney "looked like a porn's 'naughty dishwasher.'"
Regarding Osbourne leaving the show, Griffin told the magazine she's unsure of the real reason.
"Jesus, I don't know! Sometimes she seemed very upset at the merely seven tapings of 'Fashion Police' we did together," she said.
Griffin maintains that she adores the Osbourne family. She has spent the most time with Sharon, but Kelly visited her house a couple of times when Rivers was hospitalized following throat surgery so that they could console each other.
"I can tell you there was genuine love there. Oh, and of course, Ozzy is amazing," she gushed.
