Lindsey Vonn Olympics 2014: Olympic Skier Back On Slopes After Crash, Says She Is "Encouraged"
Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn climbed back from a terrifying crash in the beginning of the year that left her wondering whether she would even get back on the ski slopes before 2014.
Vonn had another scare last week when she partially tore a ligament in her right knee but she got back on the slopes to train and had no difficulties.
"Definitely, I'm encouraged,'' she said to the Associated Press on the day after Thanksgiving. "It's looking a lot better than everyone expected. Things are going well.''
As she did along along, Vonn is easing her way back into the competition.
"I'm taking it day by day. I'm not pushing it that hard yet,'' Vonn said. "Today, I was just kind of feeling it out. But the last run was better. It was more like normal. I'm skiing in my clothes and seeing how things go so far. I'm not taking unnecessary risks yet.''
An enthusiastic Vonn took to social media to show all of her supporters that she is satisfied with how things are going at this point.
"First day back on snow since my crash and it was awesome!" she wrote. "I'm very thankful for many things this year (family, loved ones, great fans) but at this moment I'm happy to be on the mountain doing what I love- skiing!! Happy thanksgiving everyone!
Vonn is expected to take part in the upcoming winter Olympic games taking place in Sochi, Russia. Her recovery schedule fell perfectly in line with the anticipated Olympic games and she hopes to continue to rack up the medals as long as she does not suffer any further setbacks before taking the international stage in less than two months.
