This weekend, a number of holiday films will be released just in time for spring season.

The films come from a variety of genres and they include such popular hits as "Annie" and Oscar nominee "Song of the Sea."

Latin Post.com takes a look at the hottest DVD releases coming out this week:

"Annie"

The biggest release of the week is the Annie remake.

The Golden Globe nominee stars Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, Bobby Cannavale, Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne. The film tells the story of a foster kid who lives with her mean foster mom and sees her life change when business tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks makes a thinly veiled campaign move and takes her in. When the film opened in December, reviews were terrible but it still managed to $85 million. While most families still have the original film in their minds, this one will still generate buzz and will offer an alternative to "Cinderella."

"Penguins of Madagascar"

With few animated films at the box office, Dreamworks will release the "Madagascar" spinoff. The movie tells the story of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private as they join forces with undercover organization The North Wind to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine from destroying the world. The movie opened in November to mix reviews, but did not manage to make a profit as it only made $82 million and it cost $132 million to produce. DreamWorks' release comes at the right time because there are no animated films at the box office other than "SpongeBob."

DreamWorks has two weeks for their next release, "Home" and, as a result, the DVD release of "Penguins of Madagscar" could generate an immense amount of buzz.

"Exodus: Gods and Kings"

Starring Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton, the film based on the Bible tells the story of Moses, who rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues. Directed by Ridley Scott, the movie was budgeted for $140 million. However, when it opened in December, the movie scored terrible reviews, was part of a dozen controversies and, worst of all, it was a financial disaster. Fox is releasing the film during lent season and hopes to get the bible belt communities and other religious groups to see the movie.

The week will also see the release of the Oscar nominated animated film "Song of the Sea." The film tells the story of a little girl who can turn into a seal and goes on an adventure with her brother to save the spirit world and other magical beings.

Chris Rock's critically acclaimed comedy "Top Five" will also have its DVD release. The movie which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival where it scored rave reviews and was later sold to Paramount for one of the highest bids of all time at the festival circuit.

The Brazilian Oscar submission and Berlin Film Festival selection "The Way He Looks" will also hit DVD. Latin Post gave the film a positive review and said, "the film is an uplifting movie." After a short release Strand hopes to generate audience from the LGBT community and art-house audiences.

Breaking Glass will release the horror thriller "A Cry from Within." The movie stars Cathy Moriarty, Eric Roberts and Robert Vaughn.
