Rumor had it that the January breakup between Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk came because the Russian supermodel had a fallout with the Portuguese soccer star's relatives.

Harsh new comments from Ronaldo's oldest sister, Elma Aveiro, seem to indicate that there may, in fact, be some bad blood between the families.

"Irina is like dead (to us)," Aveiro told the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, Flash Vidas reported. "We suffered a lot due to the breakup, but we have to move ahead and get over it," the 41-year-old added.

According to his sister, the 30-year-old Real Madrid forward has managed to move on from the five-year romance with the 29-year-old "Sports Illustrated" swimsuit star. Aveiro spoke with Correio da Manhã during a trip to the northern Portuguese city of Porto, where she was celebrating her birthday along with friends and her younger sister, Katia.

"(Cristiano) is doing well with or without a woman by his side; he is happy," Aveiro insisted. "This breakup was like that of (any) normal couple; it is over, and that is it. Now, he is moving on to something new," Ronaldo's sister added.

When Ronaldo and Shayk first announced the end of their relationship in January, the Russian model insisted that her relationship with the family of the Ballon d'Or winner had been excellent, according to E! Online.

In a statement, the face of Intimissimi said that she "has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship" and that "any negative rumors with regards to (Shayk) and the Ronaldo family are completely false and have not been a factor in the cause of the split."

The soccer star had said at the time that he wished his ex-girlfriend "the greatest happiness."

"After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end," he had told ESPN. "We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now."

The captain of the Portuguese national team has since been romantically linked to 26-year-old Spanish sports journalist and TV presenter Lucia Villalon, the Daily Mail noted.
