Van Halen New Album Release Date: David Lee Roth Confirms 2014 Release [VIDEO]
In more classic rock news, Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has confirmed that there will be a new Van Halen album to be released next year.
According to VH1, David confirmed the news on Sirius XM's "Ozzy's Boneyard" radio show, hosted by Jim Florentine. "I was up at Edward [Van Halen]'s house, maybe three days ago - just before I came here to the city - and we're starting to put music together," he said. Roth also went so far as to predict that Van Halen would be good to with a new album and a new tour in 18 months.
Of course, as every fan of the band knows, no Van Halen project goes 100% smoothly, especially when dealing with such strong personalities as the Van Halen brothers (and now the Van Halen son, Wolfgang -- Eddie's son with actress Valerie Bertinelli -- who took over the bass playing duties from Michael Anthony a few years back) and David Lee Roth. "We don't hire out and have somebody design a bunch of album covers for us and then choose...we start from scratch ourselves. Same thing with the merchandise - if you buy a t-shirt, that was designed, literally, in my living room. On and on...stage design, lighting rig, putting the show together - it takes about a year and a half, 18 months, because any idea that you have is 85 phone calls," Roth said.
And, according to UPI, that perfectionism extends into the creation of the new music. "Oh, yeah, we're writing," said Roth. "I write lyrics routinely. It's a perishable skill. And the band plays together routinely, at least three times a week. They're up at Ed's place, routinely."
