With post-production almost finished on "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," Disney looking to bring back director J.J Abrams back to the franchise for Episode IX.

Latino Review is reporting the studio is very impressed with the director's work on the film and he is being considered to do the final film in the trilogy.

Abrams will not be back for "Star Wars: Episode VIII," as the film will be written and directed by Rian Johnson ("Looper," "Brick").

The studio is looking to expand the Star Wars universe and is already planning a number of spin-offs. The company already has "Rogue One" in pre-production and it is set to star Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones and will be directed by "Godzilla" helmer Gareth Edwards.

There is another spin-off in development at the moment, but little has been revealed about that film.

Throughout the past year, the upcoming Episode VII has made headlines and a number of rumors have surfaced about the plot. However, Disney has kept the plot under wraps. The company has only released a teaser trailer which showed images of the Millennium Falcon, a dark lord with a new type of lightsaber and Oscar Isaac in an X-Wing. There were also images of storm troopers and footage of what looks like Tattooine.

"Star Ward Episode VII" is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 18 and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong'o, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max Von Sydow, and Anthony Daniels. The movie was directed by Abrams and will be scored by John Williams. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilms, produced the film and will also produce the upcoming installments in the franchise.

Episode IX is slated for a release in 2019, while Episode VIII is slated for 2017. The spin-off film "Rogue One" will be released next year in time for the holidays.
