Fox 'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3 News: Show Will Return With 18 Episodes and New Showrunner
Fox has decided to renew "Sleepy Hollow" for a third season. "The Glades" creator Clifton Campbell will be the show's executive producer and new showrunner, according to Deadline.
Eighteen episodes of the show with the headless horseman have been ordered. The show's renewal was based on finding a new showrunner after Mark Goffman left after two seasons.
Season 1 of "Sleepy Hollow" was a hit, but Season 2 struggled a little with its story and ratings. Ratings were 40 percent lower in season two versus season one, according to TVLine.
"We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized," Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden said in January.
"We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit," Walden added.
"Sleepy Hollow" has been a successful drama for Fox and the network wants to keep it.
Fox has put a ton of support around the drama. Fox entertainment president David Madden praised the show calling it "truly inventive television."
Madden is said to have helped bring Campbell over to the show as the new showrunner. When Madden was president of Fox TV Studios he worked with Campbell on the show "The Glades" and "White Collar."
"I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both 'The Glades' and 'White Collar,'" Madden said in a statement. "He is an excellent producer, and we can't wait to see what this team has in store for Season 3."
According to Fox, Season 3 will focus on the new, developing relationship between Crane and Mills after they scored a victory over evil is the season two finale.
