'Empire' Vs. 'Scandal': Fox Series Creator Is Happy Both Shows Are Doing Well, Imagines a Crossover Episode
The TV show "Empire" is one of the most talked about shows on social media.
The show recently aired its Season 1 finale, and series creator Danny Strong celebrated the final episode.
Strong was spotted outside a bar by a TMZ reporter, who asked him how he felt about the show.
"It was awesome," Strong replied.
Strong was asked how the show can stay on top. He said that he is not worried about the show.
"As long as we're all doing good it makes me happy," he said.
The TMZ reporter then picked his brain by asking him if "Empire" would ever do a mashup with the show "Scandal."
Strong suggested a catfight between Cookie and "Scandal's" Olivia Pope. Or he could see Pope helping Lucious Lyon.
"Empire" had a big ratings jump from the first episode that had 9 million watching the first episode to about 16.5 million watching the final episode. Additionally, during the final episode 2.4 million tweets were sent on Twitter, according to the Washington Post.
The future for "Empire" looks bright. Fox's hit show "Glee" had a successful first season but in the second season the show faltered as storylines changed and audiences did not connect to the characters as much. That led to viewers fleeing the show.
"Scandal" was different. Its second season was actually better than the first. Ratings have improved ever since the first season.
"Empire" could go either way. It could have an excellent second season, or it could falter like "Glee" did. Even though there were quite a few unaswered questions from Season 1, Fox only ordered 12 episodes for the next season.
Fox has conveniently put all of the episodes of "Empire" on its OnDemand service. That means new viewers could easily catchup and become fans of the show before Season 2 comes back on the air.
"Empire" has the potential to overpower "Scandal's" popularity. Besides getting huge ratings, the show's hip-hop soundtrack is extremely popular, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard chart.
