NBA Free Agents Rumors: Kevin Love Will Leave Cleveland Cavaliers for LA Lakers, Says Alonzo Mourning
Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning believes All-Star power forward Kevin Love will decide to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason.
In a recent interview with Slam Online, Mourning questioned former Heat superstar LeBron James' decision to leave Miami, where he won two NBA championships, and sign with a rebuilding Cavaliers squad, who has an unhappy superstar, referring to Love.
"Why walk away from a dynasty when you have to go somewhere and rebuild, basically?" Mourning said of James' decision to leave the Heat. "Then you've got Kevin Love, who's not happy at all. He's outta there."
Love was acquired by the Cavaliers in a blockbuster deal that sent 2014 first-overall pick Andrew Wiggins and 2013 first-overall pick Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Love averaged 26.1 points to go along with 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 77 games with the Timberwolves last season, but is struggling to fit into his new role with the Cavaliers -- from being a primary option in Minnesota to a third option behind James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland.
The 26-year-old forward could opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this summer. Based on what he is seeing from Love, Mourning is convinced that the former UCLA standout will bolt out of Cleveland to return home to Los Angeles.
"I think he's probably going to go to LA. I could see that," Mourning said when asked where he things Love will sign when he becomes an unrestricted free agent after the current season or in the summer of 2016.
Love, who is averaging 16.7 points and 10.2 rebounds for the Cavaliers this season, admitted that he is still struggling to fit into his role in Cleveland. But in a recent interview with Michael Wallace of ESPN, Love said that winning games is making it easier for him to cope up with his personal struggles this season.
"Everything is easier when you're winning," said Love, who failed to reach the playoffs in six seasons in Minnesota. "So you can have some really good games, and then some tough times. The rotation might be different. But as long as you're winning, it kind of makes up for everything. And that's the kind of way it's been here."
