Marcos Rojo Instagram News: Manchester United Star Celebrates Birthday, Not Starting Against Liverpool [Pics]
Marcos Rojo celebrated his 25th birthday on Friday, but the Manchester United defender will not play for his club on his special day according to manager Louis van Gaal.
Rojo shared on Instagram how he and his friends waited and celebrated his birthday with a glass of wine. Through his Instagram post, the Argentina international also thanked his fans and people who sent well wishes to him.
The Manchester United defender also had an early birthday gift for himself on Wednesday when he visited The Beatles Story. According to the Argentine, he is a big Beatles fan and he was impressed with the Albert Dock attraction, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney also took time to greet his teammate through a photo posted on his official Instagram account, captioned, "Happy Birthday to my teammate and friend @marcosrojo." Manchester United pair Daily Blind and Phil Jones also wished their teammate a happy birthday in a Vine video.
And Juan Mata wrote on Twitter, "Congratulations friend." The image he shared featured the two of them hugging.
However, Rojo did not get the gift that he was aiming to receive on Friday as reports confirmed that he will not be able to start in their highly anticipated match against Liverpool FC on Sunday at Anfield.
United boss Van Gaal confirmed that Rojo, along with fellow defender Luke Shaw, failed to recover in time to play 90 minutes against Liverpool, but there is a possibility that both of them will come in as substitutes. Both players did not play in their 3-0 win against Tottenham last weekend.
"I don't think they are fit to play, but maybe on the bench. I have to see how they are," Van Gaal told MUTV.
With nine games left to play in the season, Manchester United are currently in fourth place with 56 points in the Barclays Premier League table, but are just one point behind third-placed Arsenal and two points behind second-placed Manchester City. A loss to Liverpool on Sunday will bring them down to fifth place, though, as they are just two points clear of their rivals.
