'X-Men: Apocalypse' News Update and Plot Spoilers: Sophie Turner will add a Twist to Jean Grey
After a number of rumors, it has finally been confirmed that Jean Grey will return to the "X-Men" franchise.
Sophie Turner is slated to play the young version of Jean Grey in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
During an interview with the Digital Spy, she spoke about fans and said, "It's got such a loyal fan base, kind of like the 'Game of Thrones' fan base. I feel very at home with a loyal fan base and I just hope that I make them proud." She also said that she admired Famke Janssen's interpretation but would give Jean Grey "a little twist."
Throughout the post-production period there were rumors that the character would return, especially since she appeared at the end of "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Turner is the latest actress to replace an old cast mate. Janssen portrayed the role in "X-Men," "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." She reprised the role in cameo appearances in "The Wolverine" and the aforementioned "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Turner is known for her work in "Game of Thrones" and recently completed work on "Barely Lethal" and "Alone."
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is currently in pre-production and is slated to have new characters. Tye Sheridan will portray the role of Cyclops, replacing James Marsden, while Alexandra Shipp will play the role of Storm, replacing Halle Berry. Kodi Smit-McPhee will also join the cast as Nightcrawler. Evan Peters will return as Quicksilver while Nicholas Hoult will also reprise his role as the Beast.
Rose Byrne will return to the franchise as Moira MacTaggert. She played the role in "X-Men: First Class."
Oscar Isaac will join the cast as Apocalypse, while James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will return as Charles Xavier and Magneto respectively. Jennifer Lawrence will also return as Mystique.
Bryan Singer will direct, making this his fourth time directing "X-Men" films. Michael Dougherty is writing the script with Simon Kinberg and Dan Harris.
The movie is slated to open May 27, 2016.
