The Minnesota Vikings reportedly informed Adrian Peterson and his camp that they are not planning to release the running back to give him an opportunity to sign a deal elsewhere.

Peterson hinted last month that it will be hard for him to come back to the Vikings after the team decided to place him on commissioner's exempt list in September last year.

Peterson, the 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charge of reckless injury in November after reportedly using switch to discipline his four-year old son. After pleading no contest to the charges, Peterson was suspended for the rest of season.

The 29-year-old running back reportedly met face to face with team owners Mark and Zygi Wilf on Monday along with Vikings general manager Rick Spielman. According to Ben Dogra, Peterson's agent, Spielman has informed them about the team's decision to keep the veteran running back on their roster.

"It was important for me to relay the position the Vikings are taking to Adrian," Dogra told Fox Sports. "I want to make sure there is absolutely no confusion whatsoever."

Spielman also told Sid Hartman of Star Tribune that there was no question they wanted Peterson to return, playing down speculation that they will part ways after the controversy last season.

But while the Vikings have announced that they will not release the eight-year veteran, most analysts, including Ben Goessling of ESPN, believe the announcement was just a ploy to inform teams that they will not give Peterson up easily by making him available as a free agent.

Multiple reports indicated that Peterson and Minnesota might still end their ties if the Vikings receive an attractive trade offer before the 2015 NFL season. Goessling said that the Vikings are allegedly looking for at least a second-round pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for Peterson.

A second-round pick could be costly for an interested team, but several teams might make a gamble. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver said acquiring Peterson in a trade will be a "game-changer" for any team in the league.

"Obviously, he's an MVP-caliber player," Fitzgerald said. "Everybody knows that. Any team he ends up with -- or if he stays with the Vikings -- is going to have a great back. If he was to come play here, it would obviously mean a tremendous amount for our ballclub."

Peterson, who only played in one game last season, had 29 catches for 171 yards, and also tallied 1,266 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns in the 2013 season.
