Mexican wrestling superstar El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo passed away on Saturday morning following his match on Friday, multiple reports confirmed.

Aguayo competed in an Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion (AAA) wrestling promotion tag-team match on Friday night alongside Tigre Uno, Manik and former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Rey Mysterio Jr. on Friday night.

A video posted on YouTube showed that Aguayo took a bump and landed on his stomach during the match before taking a scissor from Mysterio to the floor. He was able to return to the ring, but Mysterio unleashed a dropkick to set him up for the former WWE superstar's popular "619" finishing move.

Following the dropkick, Aguayo hit the rope and went limp. Mysterio looked surprised and did not connect the "619" on Aguayo, and the match referee checked the condition of Aguayo. The medical team came to the ring to check Aguayo before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Aguayo died of cervical spine trauma, but it is still unclear at what point Aguayo suffered the spinal trauma. According to PWMania, Aguayo probably took a serious blow when he took a bump to the floor and his condition worsened when Mysterio dropkicked him into the ropes.

The tag-team match was one of the highlights of Friday night's event as it was arrange to celebrate the return of Mysterio to AAA after he decided to part ways with WWE, where he was one of the crowd favorites because of his daredevil maneuvers.

However, the celebration turned into agony because of the death of Aguayo, who is considered as one of the most decorated AAA superstars having won the tag-team title three times and was also a former light heavyweight and Mexican National Atomicos champion. He is also the son of Mexican wrestling legend Perro Aguayo.

When the news about Aguayo's death, personalities involved in the wrestling business expressed their condolences, including TNA announcer Mike Tenay, former WWE star Lance Hoyt and the Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine.
