Ted Cruz for President 2016: Ted Cruz Becomes First Latino to Enter 2016 Presidential Race, Vows to Act Against "Executive Amnesty"
As U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, formally announced his candidacy Monday for the White House during an address at Liberty University, the largest Christian-based higher education institution in the U.S, Cruz's message throughout his announcement was reigniting the "promise of America."
Cruz's presidential campaign officially launch its website, which immediately highlights the first-term senator as a conservative who will talk about the Constitution, keeping the U.S. safe, jobs, marriage and the right to life. Cruz, who was born in Canada through his American mother and Cuban father, acknowledged his father's history with Cuba under dictatorship regimes.
During his address at Liberty University, Cruz acknowledged the five-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, which provided approximately 16.4 million Americans with health insurance. Cruz said he will repeal the ACA once in office in 2017. He also reiterated previous stances such as abolishing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), defending the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms for law-abiding Americans and stand "unapologetically" with Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"God's blessing has been on America from the very beginning of this nation, and I believe God isn't done with America yet," said Cruz. "I believe in you. I believe in the power of millions of courageous conservatives rising up to re-ignite the promise of America."
"It is a time for truth, it is a time for liberty, it is a time to reclaim the constitution of the United States," said Cruz after officially stating he is running for president of the U.S.
Cruz also commented on President Barack Obama's immigration executive actions. The senator from Texas said, "Instead of the lawlessness and the president's unconstitutional executive amnesty, imagine a president that finally, finally, finally secures the borders." He asked people to imagine a legal immigration system that "welcome and celebrates" individuals who come to achieve the American dream.
"I am honored to stand with each and every one of you courageous conservatives as we come together to reclaim the promise of America, to reclaim the mandate, the hope and opportunity for our children and our children's children," said Cruz.
"We stand together for liberty. This is our fight. The answer will not come from Washington. It will come only from the men and women across this country, from men and women, from people of faith, from lovers of liberty, from people who respect the Constitution."
As Latin Post reported, Cruz announced his bid for the White House on Twitter at 12:09 a.m. EST Monday, with the tweet, "I'm running for President and I hope to earn your support!"
The tweet was accompanied with a 30-second video narrated by Cruz. He says in the video, "It's a time for truth. A time to rise to the challenge just as Americans have always done. I believe in America and her people, and I believe we can stand up and restore our promise. It's going to take a new generation of courageous conservatives to help make America great again, and I'm ready to stand with you to lead the fight."
