Bernard Hopkins is expecting a close fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming showdown on May 2 at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Most analysts fear that the fight will not be as big and as exciting as it could have been had it been staged several years ago when both fighters are still at their prime.

For Hopkins, fans will enjoy the first six rounds of the fight because Pacquiao will go all out to score a knockout. But if Pacquiao fails to score a knockout within six rounds, Hopkins thinks the Filipino boxing icon will have a hard time defeating Mayweather.

"First six rounds, possibly less, it's gonna be a tornado," Hopkins said of the upcoming super showdown, considered as the fight of the century, via CBS Sports. "Because of Pacquiao's style, he will try to overwhelm Mayweather. If [Mayweather] gets through [that first rush], he will defeat him."

Hopkins said he thinks Mayweather will walk away with a questionable decision. Unlike any boxing analysts and personalities, the former world champion cannot see Mayweather running away with an easy win against his nemesis on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

"I see Floyd making the adjustments, but by no means will this be a cakewalk," Hopkins said. "Floyd can just as well lose as win. I say Floyd wins by controversial decision."

Hopkins said, though, that Mayweather will have to work harder than before because he has never faced a fighter like Pacquiao. He said the reigning pound-for-pound king should make a lot of adjustments to stop Pacquiao on his tracks by utilizing his counter punches -- the same weapon Juan Manuel Marquez used against Pacquiao before.

"Floyd has to produce more than he has before in terms of punching," Hopkins said. "He's not fighting [Ricky] Hatton. Pacquiao can bring it all night, so Floyd's jab and counterpunching will be key."

Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record with 26 knockout victories, is considered by many as a strong favorite to win against Pacquiao in their upcoming showdown.

The unbeaten world champion will put his World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight title at stake, while Pacquiao will defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown.
