Man of Steel Sequel Casting News: Fast & Furious Star Gal Gadot Cast as Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman
Yesterday, Warner Bros. finally confirmed that Wonder Woman would appear in the Man of Steel sequel, often referred to as Batman vs. Superman. Fast and Furious star Gal Gadot will play the Amazonian superhero Diana Prince.
Some were surprised to hear Gadot was chosen to play the most recognizable female superhero to date, as Gadot is relatively unknown. Olga Kurylenko, the Bond girl in 2008's Quantum of Solace was originally rumored as a frontrunner for the role. Zach Snyder, the director of Man of Steel and the upcoming sequel, remains confident in the decision to cast Gadot.
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe," Snyder said. "Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
Gadot is best known for playing Gisele in Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. Her experience in the franchise should have taught her a thing or two about being the tough gal in town. In 2010, the Israeli actress also appeared in Date Night alongside Tina Fey and Steve Carrel and the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz film, Knight and Day.
Fans who aren't confident in Gadot's acting ability can at least be sure of her beauty, a necessity for playing Wonder Woman. Gadot was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and was crowned Miss Israel in 2004. She competed in the Miss Universe pageant but failed to place.
Another way Gadot embodies the hero formally known as Princess Diana of Themyscira, is in her height. Gadot is pretty tall for a woman, 5'9'', making her a great fit to embody the Amazon woman. According to MTV, this makes her four inches shorter than Henry Cavill, who will be reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman, and seven inches shorter than Ben Affleck, who will be playing a mature Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The Man of Steel sequel also features Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Lauren Fishburne as Perry White, and Diana Lane as Martha Kent, USA Today reports.
Principal photography for the film will begin in 2014's first quarter.
