Marvel 'Avengers 2 'Age of Ultron' Spoilers, Characters & Cast News: Will 'Avengers 2' Break 'Avengers' Opening Weekend? Forbes Does the Math
With the highly-anticipated "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" almost upon us, there's a lot of speculation as to how well the film will do in the box office.
While it seems like a give-in that it will be a colossal blockbuster hit, inquiring minds want to know what the hard figures will be at the box office.
Forbes gave an interesting forecast and took a walk down cinematic memory lane, comparing sequels and assessing the overall situation.
The author of the piece, contributor Scott Mendelson, also pointed out that "... the debut of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' presents a somewhat unique situation, in that it is the sequel to an 'original' that absolutely clobbered the opening weekend record and opened and what could be considered peak performance potential."
"The Avengers" opened in early May of 2012 with a $207 million debut weekend.
He added that in order "to foretell the future, we must go into the past." Therefore, Mendelson takes a look at blockbuster films from "Batman," "Star Trek" to "Superman," Spider-man" and "Jurassic Park," "Harry Potter" and "The Hunger Games," etc.
While the article is "part speculative mathematical guesstimation and part box office history lesson," it's an interesting assessment and a look back to see if there are any trends to look out for.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" stars Robert Downey Jr., James Spader, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Lou Ferrigno, among others.
