Still raking in the big bucks, “Fifty Shades of Grey” plans to earn more money through DVD and Blu-ray sales with the announcement that the studio will release an unrated version of the movie with an alternate ending.

On Tuesday, Universal Pictures announced that it will be releasing an unrated version with an alternate ending in May, according to a Facebook post. The one-minute trailer for the DVD and Blu-ray release was released on Facebook and YouTube and features interviews with lead cast members Dakota Fanning (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey). It also includes an interview with writer E.L. James.

The DVD will be released in the U.S. on Friday, May 1, and the Blu-ray on Friday, May 8.

"I knew from the start that it would be a passionate love story," said James, 52, on the trailer. "I always described it as a love story with a kink."

Perhaps the DVD version of the movie will include some of the parts of the books she wanted to include but had to have removed from the film. It could also be that the alternate ending may be a simple change in words.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson came head to head over the last word of the film. James favored in her script, written with Kelly Marcel, the word “Stop” but Taylor-Johnson revised it with writer Patrick Marber to “Red,” the safe word used by the couple. James overruled them, however.

"It ended on a really smart note and Erika wouldn't allow it," one insider said at the time. "It's just a bummer."

It could be that in the alternative ending the word Taylor-Johnson preferred may be used.

Since its release in February, the movie has earned almost $600 million worldwide and continues to be screened on theaters.
