Kate Middleton At Nelson Mandela Premiere: Duchess Of Cambridge Wears A £19.99 Costume Jewelry Necklace
After making numerous headlines sporting a priceless delicate diamond tiara loaned to her by the Queen earlier this week, Kate Middleton showed up to a royal film premiere, rocking rather an inexpensive statement jewelry piece that still caught the eyes of many.
Middleton attended the U.K. premiere of "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" - the official 2013 Royal Film Performance - with her husband Prince William, which the event took place at Odeon Leicester Square in London on December 5.
The Duchess of Cambridge looked gorgeous as usual, this time sporting her couture cream gown with a thigh-high slit by Roland Mouret. She completed her elegant and classy look with her hair swept back in a sleek ponytail with volume at the crown, which showed off her dramatic neckline.
Most of all, the highlight of Middleton's wardrobe that caught everyone's attention was her fake crystal costume jewelry necklace from clothing chain Zara that apparently cost only £19.99 ($35). The sparkly bead necklace features three rows of glass beads set in zinc linked together. The Duchess certainly proved that price is irrelevant to the ability to look great.
The evening faced with the sad news of Nelson Mandela's unexpected death, which was announced as the royal couple and the former South African president's daughter, Zindzi Mandela, sat down to watch the screening of "Long Walk To Freedom," the film based on his autobiography.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were informed of his death discreetly by an assistant, shortly before the end of the film. The news was then announced to shocked guests after the credits had rolled and a two minutes' silence held.
"I just wanted to say it's an extremely sad and tragic news," Prince William said. "We were just reminded what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. It's very sad."
