It's no secret that U.S. owners of premium Android phones, especially with devices customized by carrier, are having to wait weeks or months longer than many other markets in the world to get their Android 5.0 Lollipop updates. 

Now AT&T is finally rolling out an OTA update to the 2014 Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but it's not the Lollipop you'll ultimately want.

According to Android Authority, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on AT&T is finally getting an update to Android Lollipop, right after Sprint did the same for its Galaxy Note 4 devices. The OTA notifications are flying to phones as you read this, but as with all rollouts, it's done in stages, so you may have to wait a little longer than others on the same network.

It doesn't change the fact that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owners will probably be looking forward to the next Android L update, anyway. That's because AT&T's Android 5.0 Lollipop update rolling out to Galaxy Note 4 devices is officially Android 5.0.1.

It's the slightest upgrade above the stock Android 5.0 Lollipop you can get, and it certainly doesn't include all of the bug fixes and U.I. enhancements that Android 5.1 Lollipop brings.

Still, it's an opportunity for AT&T users to finally see (Samsung's modified) Material Design, along with the new, gentler TouchWiz UI by Samsung.

One word of advice: This particular update is a 1.1GB file, so the usual precautions recommended before any firmware update apply doubly.

Make sure you won't need the phone for a little while, make sure it's backed up, and really be sure that your Galaxy Note 4 is more than 50 percent juiced, is plugged into a charger, and is connected to fast (and data-uncapped) WiFi before you click "Yes, I'm in" on the OTA notification.
