‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Teaser Trailer and Spoilers: Meet New Characters, Find Out How the Zombie Apocalypse Began [Watch]
Since the dawning of "The Walking Dead," fans have wondered how the zombie apocalypse started. It looks like we will find out this summer.
The first teaser trailer for the spinoff series, "Fear the Walking Dead," debuted during the Season 5 finale of the hit AMC show, reports E! News.
"Morning, Los Angeles -- hope you got your flu shot," says a radio disc jockey in a promo for "Fear the Walking Dead." "Reports in five states that a strange virus is going around -- so if you're not feeling well, go home, take care of yourself."
We know the end result: the zombie apocalypse.
The 15-second clip confirms two key plot details: the location, which is Los Angeles, and the initial timeline, the onset of "The Walking Dead's" critical outbreak.
Though the series is set in the same location as "The Walking Dead," the plot will concentrate on four new main characters, reports Rolling Stone: Sean Cabrera (Cliff Curtis), a divorced teacher; Nancy Tomkins (Kim Dickens), a guidance counselor; and her two children, Ashley (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and drug-addicted Nick (Frank Dillane).
AMC has already ordered a second season to premiere in 2016. The initial season is six episodes.
"We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC," Executive producer Robert Kirkman said in a statement when the show was announced. "I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we've accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I'm very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven't scratched the surface yet when it comes to 'The Walking Dead.'"
Filming for "Fear the Walking Dead" began earlier this year and concluded on Feb. 6, according to Rolling Stone.
Dickens, who plays Kate Baldwin in Season 3 of Netflix's "House of Cards," told E! News she was instructed not to watch "The Walking Dead."
"When I was getting close to getting the role I inquired what I should watch of it and they said don't watch it because A. It's going to be different than that and B. Your character wouldn't know what the apocalypse looks like anyway, you know? It was interesting to think of it that way. 'Oh yeah, I don't need to watch it.' We're going to be doing something different, it's going to be filmed differently," she said. "My character wouldn't know that, she wouldn't have that information so it was a fascinating way to start it, sort of clueless just like the characters really are."
"Fear The Walking Dead" is scheduled to premiere this summer.
"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC in October.
