Chad Johnson Pleads 'No Contest' to Domestic Battery Charges
NFL star Chad Johnson appeared in court on Friday and pled "no contest" to a charge of domestic battery against his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada.
Johnson will not spend any time behind bars. Instead, he was sentenced to 12 months probation and 26 weeks in a batterers intervention program.
The judge also issued a no-contact order for the duration of his probation, blocking Johnson from contacting Lozada.
A Florida judge signed off on the couple's divorce early Wednesday morning.
Johnson was also ordered to pay restitution, but the amount won't be determined until next week.
Johnson's attorney Adam Swickle told E! News that the deal was reached with prosecutors earlier in the week.
"This was a fair resolution to a difficult situation," Swickle said. "Chad is ready to move on with his life and he is ready to put all this behind him. He always lands back on his feet."
Johnson told his side of the story, finally breaking his story on an appearance on 'Inside The NFL'
Johnson said he lost two things that he loved because of his altercation with Lozada.
"I lost two things that I love: football and being married," Johnson said. "Being a husband, being a lover was an honor. And I lost that. They have that saying, 'You never know what you have until it's gone.' And now I finally know what they mean."
Johnson was fired fro the Miami Dolphins just one day after the incident.
Johnson and Lozado's VH1 reality series, Ev and Ocho, was also dropped before it aired. The unscripted series was scheduled to premiere Sept. 3.
