TIME Magazine Person of the Year 2013: Miley Cyrus, Pope Francis, and Edward Snowden Highlight Top Ten
So Miley Cyrus has made another list. While in the UK she was runner up to Justin Bieber in the Most Annoying People of 2013, in America she is loved. Miley has made the top 10 finalist for TIME Magazine's 2013's Person of the Year. Isn't that just another example of the major differences between the European mindset and us? Hmm, major cultural lesson coming your way.
America cannot get enough of Miley Cyrus. There's something about young people breaking the rules that we just love to watch. TIME Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs revealed the top 10 candidates on the Today Show running for the title of Person of the Year. Miley is the only entertainer, the only young person and the only awkwardly different candidate on this list. Her competition is as follows:
Bashar Assad, Present of Syria
Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder
Ted Cruz, Texas Senator
Miley Cyrus, Singer
Pope Francis, Leader of the Catholic Church,
Barack Obama, President of the United States
Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran
Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services
Edward Snowden, N.S.A. Leaker
Edith Windsor, Gay Rights Activist
Do you see how it's just a little weird for Miley to be right about the Pope? Maybe her name could have been placed between Edward Snowden, the N.S.A. Leaker (what a title by the way), and Edith Windsor, the Gay Rights Activist, since they like to "shake things up" kind of like Miley. It would be interesting to sit in on this decision since there is no comparison between leaders of an entire country and a 21-year old twerking pop star, but okay, TIME continue to humor us. On Wednesday, we will know who was pronounced Person of the Year and we will have to absolutely know if Miley won. If this list strictly consists of the most talked about people of 2013 then we would understand Miley's triumph, but other than that, this proves that this country is keeping its title of "American Idiots."
