'Winnie the Pooh' Live Action Movie Update: Disney Announces New Live Remake of Classic
Disney has announced that they will produce a live-action version of "Winnie the Pooh."
The film is the latest in a line of animated Disney movies being adapted for live action. The studio has hired Alex Ross Perry to write the script.
Perry is best known for the indie feature "Listen Up Philip." That film went on to play at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and the 2014 New York Film Festival. He also recently directed the feature "Queen of Earth," which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival this past February.
According to sources, the plot will tell the story of Christopher Robin, Winnie's human pal, who returns as an adult to revisit Pooh's hangout in the Hundred Acre Wood.
"Winnie the Pooh" follows the announcement of Disney green-lighting live action versions of "Mulan" and "Dumbo," which will be directed by Tim Burton. It will also follow "Beauty and the Beast" which is already in pre-production and finishing casting. Emma Watson will play Belle alongside Luke Evans and Dan Stevens. Bill Condon will direct the adaptation.
Disney has already released a number of live action adaptations including "Maleficent," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Cinderella." The company is slated to release a sequel to "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Jungle Book" next year.
There are no further plans yet to be announced but at the rate that Disney is producing these films, it is likely that the company will soon announce a "Snow White," "Aladdin," "Pocahontas" "Pinocchio" and even "Tarzan."
Disney has produced a number of "Winnie the Pooh" films including the 1977 classic "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" and the short films "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree," "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" and "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too."
There is no exact release date yet for the film, but based on the hectic schedule, it will likely come out in 2017 or 2018.
