It seems "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequels will actually happen as producer Michael De Luca has left Sony to work with Universal.

Deadline reported that De Luca, who is President of Production at Sony, will leave his post to produce pictures for Universal. De Luca was the producer of "Fifty Shades of Grey" and will oversee the production of the last two installment in the franchise.

The newly appointed Sony Pictures chief, Tom Rothman, had tried to convince De Luca not to leave but was not successful.

In a statement, De Luca said, "There are fantastic things happening at Sony right now. I am crazy about Tom, Doug, Hannah [Minghella] and the whole team here, and there is incredible new energy and optimism about what's going on, so this was a really hard decision for me. I literally wish I could be in two places at once, but the opportunity to resume my producing career right now, including the possibility of continuing on the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy, makes this the right choice for me at this unique moment in time. I look forward to continuing to work with Columbia on my existing productions there."

De Luca is an Academy Award-nominated producer who is known for his work on "Captain Phillips," "Moneyball" and "The Social Network." He will be producing "The Creed of Violence" and "Inferno."

"Fifty Shades of Grey" has become one of the most lucrative February films of all time and has also become the fourth highest grossing romance drama of all time. Currently, the movie has made $165 million domestically and over $500 million worldwide. The film stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Marcia Gay Harden and Jennifer Ehle. Universal released the film under the Focus Features brand.

While the sequel to the film has not been officially announced, Sam Taylor-Johnson has already stated that she will not return for the second film. The last films will called "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed." Dornan and Johnson are expected to return for the last two installments.
