Miley Cyrus News Update 2013: Singer is MTV Best Artist of the Year 2013
The former Disney star's rave performances full of twerking, grinding and licking seem to have paid off.
Miley Cyrus has been hailed as MTV's Best Artist of the Year in a recently released article on its website. The post enumerated the Top 10 Best Artist of the Year which included Lady Gaga, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Drake, Katy Perry, One Direction, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
According to MTV, artists were ranked based on their criteria which included "sales, air play, live performances, cultural impact, social impact" and the artist's "general ability to keep us buzzing during the period between January 1 and December 6."
JM of MTV regarded the young singer as the "New Queen of Pop."
"Whether it was the tongue, the twerk-tastic VMA performance or the Terry photo shoot, there's no denying there was a method to Miley's madness, the kind that could only be orchestrated by a 21-year-old who's been in the business for nearly a decade. She schooled - and shocked - us all in 2013, and did so on her own terms," he wrote.
Then again, Miley has kept the world abuzz with almost every appearance she made on air. Her performance on MTV VMA 2013 is the most viewed video on MTV's website, reports CNN. Miley Cyrus' artist page is also the most visited on the same site.
Record sale of her most recent album "Bangerz" is also notable. The album is currently topping charts and record sales. Her hit singles "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" also land spots in the top charts.
According to VEVO, the singer's music video for "Wrecking Ball" is their most viewed video in the year 2013. The video has close to 397 million views on YouTube alone.
The singer's music video for the track "We Can't Stop" comes in second. The video has more than 304 million views on VEVO's YouTube account.
The Top 2 spot of MTV's Best Artist of the Year 2013 belongs to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The duo is behind chart topping hits such as "The Thrift Shop", "Can't Hold Us" and "Same Love."
