Kelly Clarkson Weight 2015: Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace Apologizes for Fat Shaming 'American Idol' Winner
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace has apologized to Kelly Clarkson for negative comments he made about her weight, Us Weekly reports.
Wallace appeared on "The Mike Gallagher Show" on Friday, April 3, and both Wallace and Gallagher discussed Clarkson's weight gain since her pregnancy.
"Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up," Gallagher said.
Wallace replied, "Really? Do we want to talk about some of your friends? Kelly Clarkson's got a lovely voice. She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while."
The two men did acknowledge that Clarkson had a baby recently, but their comments made it seem as though this was still not an excuse.
Following their comments, Gallagher and Wallace garnered immense backlash from social media users for fat-shaming the "American Idol" alum.
Since the backlash, Wallace has apologized for his offensive comments to Us Weekly.
"I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment," Wallace said in a statement to Us Weekly. "I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her."
Clarkson has yet to publicly respond to Wallace's apology, but People notes that Clarkson has previously spoken out against people who have fat shamed her.
In a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Clarkson revealed that while her feelings are hurt toward those that have criticized her weight gain, she has learned to embrace her body.
She explained to the host that size does not matter, especially because it issomething that can be changed. Clarkson has personal experience with this because she has seen her body change throughout her career. Also, like other people, exercise is not always her top priority.
"It's like, you're just who you are. We are who we are. Whatever size, and it doesn't meant that we're gonna be that forever," she said. "That's the thing. Sometimes we're more fit. Like especially me, I'm such a creative person that I yo-yo. So sometimes I'm more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don't, and I'm like ... I'd rather have wine."
