ABC 'Agents of SHIELD' Star Edward James Olmos Talks Possible Marvel Movies, 'Blade Runner' Remake & Connects With New Latino Fans
From the U.S. to Spain and France, fans of ABC's hit series Marvel's "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." tuned into a Twitter Q& A with @edwardjolmos on Monday, proving that the celebrated actor is bringing not only national, but international appeal and is sparking Latinos' interest in Marvel.
The Oscar-nominated actor/director is attracting a diverse audience as Agent Robert Gonzales, who made his debut this spring in "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "will have massive repercussions for Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team."
A tweet from an Olmos fan in Spain from María Traver @MTraverAndujar said: "@edwardjolmos I might become a Marvel fan because of you there! Un abrazo desde España (A hug from Spain)"
A tweet from Karoluz @Karoluz also reiterated his newfound interest in Marvel adding: "Me habia resistido a ver Marvel Agents of Shield, pero ahora que vi que @edwardjolmos sale en ella tendre que ir a verla. (I was resistant to watch Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,' but now I see that Edward James Olmos is in it, now I will have to watch it.")
Olmos sent "Abrazos y Cariño" (hugs and love) to his fans who pointed this out.
For current Marvel fans, he added: "If you a Marvel Fan. Take the ride you will enjoy it."
With the success of the Marvel films, affection for Olmos, and the box office power of the movie-going Latino audience, it seems like it would be a no-brainer to add Olmos to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One fan, Chris Contreras @Beta76 tweeted: "I hope @edwardjolmos character "Agent Gonzalez" is brought into the Marvel films! #AgentsofSHIELD"
"How much did my mother pay you to say that?" Olmos responded.
When Olmos joined the cast as a guest star, he dove right into the material. "I saw everything they did as soon as they called me. I enjoy the Marvel world and found this to be true to that world," he tweeted.
While he says that he doesn't have a favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and says, "I love them all," Olmos said that if he were to play any other interesting character on the show, it would be (Agent Leo) "Fritz!"
Olmos has been captivating audiences for decades on both the big screen and small screen. He's known for his memorable roles as William Adama in the re-imagined "Battlestar Galactica," Lt. Martin Castillo in "Miami Vice," math teacher Jaime Escalante in "Stand and Deliver," patriarch Abraham Quintanilla in the film" Selena," Detective Gaff in "Blade Runner," and is the founder of his own film production company, Olmos Productions.
When asked if he would be open to a sequel of "Blade Runner," by Sam Adams @akaTheNerd, Olmos wasn't opposed to the idea.
"Great world... would love to live in it again," Olmos tweeted.
As of now, Olmos said that he doesn't have any TV projects, guest spots or recurring roles on the horizon. In the meantime, he's just relishing in his role on Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"It's fantastic. I'm very honored and pleased to be a part of this world. I'm so grateful they were confident enough in me to let me portray this character, especially since he's Gonzales," Olmos told E! News in a recent interview. "What he represents and what he means is huge. This is going to be one of the high points of my career."
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
