Chiquis Rivera 'Forgiveness' Revelations: Singer Reveals She Sexually Abused by a Woman, Thought She Was Gay at One Point
Chiquis Rivera's new book "Forgiveness" will be released Tuesday.
In the memoir, Chiquis makes several revelations that fans may have not known about her, Billboard reports.
It was previously known that Chiquis was sexually abused by her father. The singer has spoken up about testifying against him, but in the book, she reveals that she was not just abused by him.
Chiquis was also molested by a woman. She calls this her most closely guarded secret.
"This is something I haven't confessed to any of the seemingly thousands of psychologists whom I saw during my teenage years, nor the doctors who treated me after the scandal with my father, nor the pastor of any church during my deepest spiritual crisis," she wrote in the book.
Chiquis says that this secret was not even known by her mother, the late Jenni Rivera.
The author does not mention the woman's name who abused her, but says it was occuring around the same time as the abuse from her father.
The woman tricked her into playing games that led to sexual touching. Chiquis says she was confused after being abused by two separate people.
She adds she is finally telling this secret because she wants other abuse victims to know that they can overcome their abuse.
Readers may be shocked to learn that Chiquis thought she was gay at one point in her life.
"I would question myself as to whether I was gay or straight," she wrote in the book.
Chiquis says that during the period of time she was being abused, she was confused.
"Would I become so promiscuous that I wouldn't be able to maintain an exclusive relationship, or would I instead become completely celibate and alone? That's how terrified I was by even the thought of being touched, regardless of whether it was by a man or a woman," she added.
In an interview with Maria Celester Arraras on "Al Rojo Vivo," Chiquis said she had a relationship with a female best friend, though she said it was nothing seriously.
Jenni did not approve of the relationship, but Chiquis explained that her mother did not understand the abuse she faced. Therefore, Jenni did not realize how conflicted Chiquis felt.
Chiquis is now certain of her sexual orientation, and she has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with a man, who works as a Latin music executive.
The book also touches on the rumor that Chiquis and Jenni's husband, Esteban Loaiza, had an affair. Jenni tried to prove there was a sexual relationship between the two through security footage, but Chiquis says the video does not show anything.
She says she was even on the phone talking to her boyfriend and her uncle at the time the video was shot, and that it was just a few minutes.
Chiquis says she and her mother were on the road to reconciliation before Jenni's 2012 death.
"I forgive you for doubting me," Chiquis wrote in the book.
Chiquis Rivera's book "Forgivness" is available at Walmart on paperback for $12.97.
