Fox Searchlight could be on track to become the first company to win a third Best Picture Oscar.

The company has already announced its slate of films being released and from the looks of it, the company has a very good set of movies.

In a week, the company will release the critically acclaimed film "True Story" with James Franco, Jonah Hill and Felicity Jones. All three actors received raves at the Sundance Film Festival and are also Oscar nominees.

In May, Fox Searchlight will release Thomas Vinterberg's "Far From the Madding Crowd" starring Carey Mulligan in the leading role. The film already premiered and reviews have been very good. Vinterberg is a beloved director and his last film "The Hunt" was nominated for the Best Foreign Film award 2013.

Many may argue that these two films are being released too early and do not have the amount of buzz that an Oscar contender needs. However, it is important to note that Fox Searchlight released "The Grand Budapest Hotel" in March and the film turned out to be a big hit domestically and went all the way to winning four Oscars.

"True Story" and "Far From the Madding Crowd" have big shoes to follow, but if the critical support is there and the films become breakout indies, than perhaps Fox Searchlight could break another record.

However, if the company does not succeed with these two films, Fox Searchlight has a number of films that could easily be Oscar contenders. The company will release Noah Baumbach's "Mistress America" after its huge success at Sundance as well as the documentary "He Named Me Malala."

The two biggest films the company has to look forward to are "Demolition" and "A Bigger Splash." "Demolition" is directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, who has become an Oscar favorite. Three of his films have all been nominated for a number of Oscars and two have gone on to win awards. More importantly, his last two films "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Wild" have both obtained acting nominations, with "Dallas Buyers Club" winning two. This bodes well for Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, who have never won Oscars but have been nominated.

Watts is a two-time Oscar nominee, while Gyllenhaal has only been nominated once. Gyllenhaal almost got nominated this year for "Nightcrawler" but was ignored. However, the Academy may want to recognize him after so many great performances.

The second film, "A Bigger Splash," reunites Tilda Swinton with Ralph Fiennes and is directed by Italian auteur Luca Guadagnino. The movie is likely to go to the Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals where it will most likely start its Oscar campaign. Additionally, Swinton and Fiennes are two of the most respected actors in Hollywood and they have been often overlooked by the Academy. Fiennes has not been nominated since 1997 and was snubbed this past year for "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Additionally, Swinton may have won for "Michael Clayton" but was snubbed for "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and "Snowpiercer." Guadagnino has also never been recognized by the Academy and he could become the first Italian director in years to win especially with the Academy feeling so international for the past four years.

It is unknown how these films will turn out and if Fox Searchlight will acquire a last film. However, the company looks to have a strong lineup that will be hard to defeat.
