iOS 8.3 Released To the Public, Adds New Emojis, Addresses Issues
Apple tested out the beta for iOS 8.3 for a long time. Finally, Wednesday, it released the full version of the operating system to the public.
The most significant improvements came with new Emojis, wireless CarPlay support and Messages app improvements.
Apple says that it has improved app launching and performance, Messages, WiFi, Control Center, Safari tabs, third party keyboards, keyboard shortcuts and the simplified Chinese keyboard, according to Forbes.
WiFi and Bluetooth connection problems have been addressed and fixed. There was an instance where users were continuously asked for their log in information. There also was an issue that was causing some devices to frequently disconnect from wireless networks. Bluetooth problems would cause songs to stop playing with some Bluetooth speakers. All of these issues have been fixed.
There were some issues that were fixed regarding screen orientation. The update addresses an issue where users would not be able to go back to portrait orientation after viewing something in landscape orientation. There also was an issue where iPhone 6 Plus users would take their phones out of their pockets and the screen would be upside down. These issues have been fixed.
Several issues in the Messages app have been fixed. There were group messages that were sometimes being split up. There was also an issue that would prevent messages from being deleted or forwarded. Finally, with iOS 8.3, users will be able to mark messages as junk right from the Messages app.
Siri has learned a few more languages. She now knows how to speak English (India, New Zealand), Danish, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.
New Emojis have been added. There are now over 300 new characters with many new skin tone options. In the past, there was only an Asian and Indian. Now, African Americans are represented. Also added to the Emojis are same-sex relationships.
To update to iOS 8.3, users should go to Settings, General, Software Update and then click update. The update is 216 MB in size.
