It's been a pretty busy NFL offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs.

They finally decided to part ways with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, brought in Jeremy Maclin, and they franchise tagged Justin Houston. The Chiefs missed the playoffs last season with a 9-7 record.

Despite being very active this offseason, there are a lot of quality free agents in various positions the Chiefs should keep an eye on.

Here are five NFL free agents the Chiefs should consider signing:

1. Michael Crabtree

Probably the best wide receiver left in NFL free agency.

Michael Crabtree had six productive years with the San Francisco 49ers, one of which resulted in 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns. He's not an elite wide out, but he's young, can run every route, and he won't demand top dollar.

The Chiefs failed (Chiefs fans have heard this before) to score a single passing touchdown last year to a wide receiver. Signing Crabtree to a nice two- to three-year deal would give the Chiefs more stability, and take a big load off Jamaal Charles.

2. Wes Welker

You just knew it was coming, didn't you?

The guy that so many Chiefs fans can't stand. He may be small, he may not have great hands, and he may not be able to stretch the field past 15 yards. Well, with Dwayne Bowe gone, there's still no telling how Jeremy Maclin will adapt to this new system, and whether or not he can stay healthy. Welker is still a good slot receiver when on the field, and he can help move the chains and get pivotal first downs. He also has a lot of playoff experience having played in three Super Bowls. Alex Smith is a "play it safe" quarterback who throws a lot of short passes, so Welker should find a good connection with him.

3. Kevin Williams

The Chiefs had a good defense last season led by Justin Houston, but surprisingly, they ranked 28th in rushing yards allowed. Even more surprising, the Chiefs allowed the fewest rushing touchdowns against in the entire NFL. A truly mysterious defensive line. Most of the top tier defensive tackles are off the board by now, but Kevin Williams could be a good signing. The former Minnesota Vikings great played for the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl last season. Williams is obviously past his prime, but he has missed just five games since his 2003 rookie campaign .

4. Jake Long

The St. Louis Rams released Jake Long this offseason to free up salary cap space. The former No. 1 overall draft pick has been a good offensive lineman, and he still just 29 years old. Last season, Smith was sacked a career-high 45 times. Long did tear his ACL last year, against the Chiefs, so signing him would be risky. If the Chiefs want to sign another offensive lineman, they should take a look at 26-year-old Stefen Wisniewski, even if he did play for the Oakland Raiders last season.

5. Brandon Lloyd

There's no doubt the Chiefs could use a boost at the wide receiver position. Thankfully, they have quite a bit of options. The Chiefs could bring in a guy who is from Kansas City, Brandon Lloyd. Although 33 years old, Lloyd still has great speed and he has the vertical threat that the Chiefs need. With defenses focusing so much on Charles at the line of scrimmage, and Maclin opening up the middle of the field, Lloyd could be the x-factor 40 to 50 yards down field.
