Ben Hardy will play the role of Angel in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

The news was confirmed by director Bryan Singer, who told Empire, "Ben Hardy is Angel -- I shall confirm it for you! But he's not a very nice Angel! And that's all I'll say..."

It is the first time we've heard Hardy's name in a while as he was cast in the film a few months ago but his character name was withheld. Speculation had been surfacing that he would play the Angel but it was not confirmed.

The new film will star Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, who is a super-powerful mutant supported by the Horsemen. The Horsemen are four artificially augmented mutants whose duty is to do their master's bidding. According to the comics, the Angel was one of the most famous Horsemen and this may mean that Hardy will be a villain in the upcoming film.

Plot details have been scarce and IMDB still does not have a synopsis The film reunites "First Class"/"Days Of Future Past" actors James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast. There are a number of newcomers in the film including: Tye Sheridan who will play Cyclops; Sophie Turner, who will play Jean Grey; Alexandra Shipp, who will be the new Storm; and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who will take on the role of Nightcrawler.

The film follows the success of "Days of Future Past" which became the second highest grossing "X-Men" film of all time and also scored rave reviews. It also became the first film in the franchise to score Oscar nominations.

The movie also saw a number of cast members from the original trilogy, including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Famke Janssen and Shawn Ashmore.

X-Men: Apocalypse is out on May 27, 2016.
