The intensity of the Cristiano Ronaldo -- Lionel Messi's rivalry continued this week with both superstars getting two games.

For Messi and Barcelona, the team had a tough week to get through. Almeria at home posed minimal challenges and the team looked rather confident in what wound up being a 4-0 win. Messi scored a goal in the game, had five shots (four on target), made 68 passes, four long balls, two through balls and five dribbles.

He scored again on the weekend as Barcelona ran out to a 2-0 lead against Sevilla and looked primed to maintain a four-point lead atop the Spanish League. He only managed two shots on target in that outing, no through balls and a total of 72 passes overall.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo and Real Madrid had a tough game at Rayo Vallecano. Despite being outpossessed, Madrid managed a 2-0, including Ronaldo's 300th goal for the club. He had five shots, two on target. He also provided an assist on the team's second goal from James Rodriguez.

And he did it all over again on the weekend as Madrid hosted a week Eibar side. Ronaldo scored his first free kick goal in over a year to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Season Stats

Overall, Ronaldo retained his lead on his rival in all competitions. He currently has 49 goals and 17 assists in just 43 appearances (1.13 goals per game). Eleven of those goals are from penalties. Messi, meanwhile, has 45 goals and 22 assists in 44 appearances with only five of his goals coming from penalties (1.02 goals per game).

Messi has six hat tricks on the year; Ronaldo has five.

In Spain, Ronaldo holds a four-goal lead for the Pichichi (awarded to the league's top scorer) with 38 goals and 12 assists (1.36 goals per game). He has nine penalty goals in Spain.

Messi has 34 goals and 15 assists in 31 games; four of those goals come from penalties.

In the Champions League, which resumes this week, both players have eight goals and three assists in eight matches.

Calendar Year Stats

Messi has 22 goals and 13 assists in 22 matches to start 2015. Ronaldo is still under the goal-per-game rate in 2015 with 17 goals in 19 games. That said he only has five assists. Overall, Messi has contributed on 35 goals this year for Barcelona while Ronaldo has only contributed in 22 goals.

Streaking

Ronaldo now has goals in four straight games (eight goals overall) and has recovered his form after slumping to start the year. After starting the year with just four goals and one assist in seven matches, he has 13 goals and four assists in his last 11 overall.

Ronaldo has been involved in a goal or assist in six straight games for Los Blancos (10 goals, two assists).

In his last 10 games, Ronaldo has 13 goals and three assists.

After getting off to a torrid start in 2015, Messi has leveled out a bit. He had 14 goals and seven assists in his first 10 games of the calendar year.

But then he hit a two-game slump in which he did not score a single goal or assist. Since then, he has eight goals and four assists in nine games. Still a statistic that anyone would love to have, but not the kind of pace that many have expected given Messi's talent and his start to the year.

In his last 10 games, Messi has eight goals and four assists.

Winner

Both players scored two goals on the week, but Ronaldo had an assist. Moreover, he scored the game winner in both games and his team made up some ground on Barcelona in a crucial stretch.

Ronaldo is now tied with Messi, 13-13.
