Wednesday's all-new episode of "Criminal Minds" will be intense as the BAU investigates a bizarre family murder and Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Edward Asner guest stars as Hotch's father-in-law

In the upcoming episode, which is titled "A Place at the Table," the BAU will head to Maryland to look into the murder of a family after their lifeless bodies are discovered at their own dining room table. During their investigation, the team will question other family members and friends who knew the victims. The unit will also find out that the family was wealthy, along with other secrets from the family's past.

In the meantime, Hotch will try to make amends with his late wife's father, Roy, played by Ed Asner, after he learns that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Roy still blames Hotch for the death of his daughter, but Hotch will make an effort to reach out to the hardworking, no-nonsense agent to resolve their differences before it's too late.

Executive producer Erica Messer also dropped spoilers about Asner's guest appearance.

"He plays Hotch's father-in-law, Roy, who's been diagnosed with early Alzheimer's, and he doesn't like Hotch at all, she told TVLine. "In fact, I think he's the only person in the history of "Criminal Minds" who's told Hotch to shut up."

She added that "it's so real in that way of 'family drama to turned up to 11,' because Roy blames Hotch for Haley being dead -- 'I trusted you to keep her safe and she died under your care.' It's just... holy cow. But then on top of that there's this emotional vulnerability of a strong man who's going to have to depend on others to survive, and the last thing he wants to do is ask Hotch for any help."

According to CarterMatt, the synopsis reads as follows:

"When a Maryland family is found murdered at their dining room table, the team tracks down other family members and friends to uncover secrets that may have led to it. Also, Hotch must try to make peace with his father-in-law, Roy, after discovering he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's."

Season 10, Episode 20 of "Criminal Minds," "A Place at the Table," will air on Wednesday, April 15, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
