'The Incredibles 2' News Update: Brad Bird Confirms New Sequel
Disney will continue its sequel trend as it has plans of making "The Incredibles 2."
Director Brad Bird has already confirmed that he is working on the script for the sequel after speculation surfaced back in March. The director said "I'm just starting to write it, so we'll see what happens." No release date has been set, but Pixar has a number of untitled films on its slate for 2017 and 2018. "The Incredibles 2" may be one of the films.
"The Incredibles" is among the most beloved films Pixar has produced as it won rave reviews when it opened in 2014 and won the Oscar for Best Animated film and Sound Editing. The movie also made $261 million and is still the company's fifth-highest grossing film of all time. If Pixar were to make the sequel, it would become the fourth Pixar film to get a sequel.
The first film was the 1995 film "Toy Story" which was followed by a sequel in 1999 and later got a third installment in 2010. The 2006 film "Cars" also got a sequel in 2011.
The company is currently working on a sequel for the 2003 film "Finding Nemo." They are releasing "Finding Dory" in 2016.
During his interview for his new movie "Tomorrowland," Bird also spoke about the difficulty of making films these days due to piracy. He added, "It's very difficult nowadays because everyone has a device with which they can ruin your movie."
"Tomorrowland" opens on Memorial Day weekend.
Pixar is releasing two films this year. Their first film is "Inside Out," which is scheduled for the summer and is speculated to go to Cannes. In November, the company will release the highly-anticipated "The Good Dinosaur."
In 2017, the company will release a fourth Toy Story film.
