Britney Spears Latino Stereotype: Britney Jean Singer Says Latin Men Are Bad Boys In Controversial Comments [VIDEO]
Britney Spears isn't known for being the smartest girl in the world, and her recent controversial comments about Latinos has really sparked some outrage.
In an interview Thursday with Univision's Despierta América, Spears, who takes up a two-year residence at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on Dec. 27, mentioned that Madonna and Jennifer Lopez had both served as an inspiration for her.
Which, in and of itself, is fine.
But then, the interview takes a turn for the worse: when asked what she likes most about Latinos, she responded, "I think it's very sexy. I've always loved Latinos. They make me think of the typical "bad boy" type that your father wouldn't let you go out with."
Then interviewer Luis Sandoval followed up with the hard-hitting, "Who's your perfect man?" To which Spears affected a bad Hispanic accent while answering, "Just talk like you."
She then began speaking in "fake Spanish."
Perez Hilton was the first to respond to Spears's comments, saying, "Aye dios mio, chica - what are you saying? We realize the hot-blooded Latino male is a super prevalent stereotype, but you can't judge people based on their ethnicity! Or skin color, sexual orientation, nationality, language, or even by their favorite member of One Direction! You just can't do it, Brit!" He then called her an "accidental racist."
On one hand, political correctness has definitely gone too far in this country -- we speak with fear of pissing off some ethnic group or another, without realizing that the ethnic groups poke fun of themselves. On the other hand, Britney's comments were definitely not appropriate, and play into way too many Latino stereotypes... stereotypes that Latinos the world over are still trying to combat, with very little success.
