‘Mad Men’ Spoilers for Season 7, Episode 10: Peggy Questions Pete; Is There Romance for Joan?
"Mad Men" series creator Matthew Weiner has been notoriously tight-lipped about the plots that could reveal the story of the show and the direction which it might take.
Though as evidenced in this vague AMC promo, controversy between Peggy and Pete ensues, and the video tries to lead the viewer to believe that there's a possibility of a rekindled romance between Roger and Joan. After, she is seen telling someone she has an early flight the next morning, it cuts into footage of Roger.
At the very least, it looks as though Episode 10 of Season 7 will see Joan in some sort of romantic relationship. As for Don, he is seen on his bed, covered by his sheet. Someone is looking over him, but it is difficult to tell who it is.
Throughout the promo, Don seems sort of down. And he has controversy at work.
"Don't blame your failure on me," Don said to what appears to be Pete.
In Episode 9 of Season 7 of "Mad Men", Don has taken a look back on his life and discovered that he has even less than he expected. He has lost his family and now seeks comfort in the arms of a waitress, Diana (played by Elizabeth Reaser).
Don tracked Diana down and romance ensues, which affects Don on a personal level given his need to rebuild a life he once had. He then learns she left her daughter, whom we find out she lost to the flu, which is why she moved to New York, as reported by The Guardian.
Betty has also taken steps to form a new independent lifestyle while still maintaining her marriage to Henry. She reveals to Don her plans to enroll at Fairfield for a Masters in Psychology.
In the office, Peggy and Stan are in the company of a celebrity photographer, Pima Ryan (played by Mimi Rogers), who takes a commanding lead in their conversations. Pima actually ends up seducing Stan in the darkroom and even makes casual advances to Peggy.
Megan's mother reappears in this episode and she is quick to rekindle her romance with Roger. But their affair is discovered by Megan, who yells at them for being together. She reminds Roger that her mother is married.
Don also seems to regret stealing Megan away from her youth. She seeks to grow independently but still needs money from Don to finance her life. Don's guilt leads him to write Megan a check for $1 million dollars, and in the end, his apartment is completely cleaned out by Megan's mother, a caper which Roger helped finance.
In the end, Don stands in his apartment, devoid of furniture and simple belongings, foreshadowing his empty life.
In an article on Vulture, Weiner said, "The last seven episodes, each of them feels like the finale of the show," speaking in reference to speculation of how the series may end.
