'Vacation' Sequel: Ed Helms & Christina Applegate to Star in New Movie with Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo
Beware, America! The Griswolds are back. At least, Rusty Griswold is back, and he is taking his own family down the same "Holiday Road" that his father Clark did over 30 years ago with a cross-country trip.
Ed Helms will star as Rusty Griswold, the grown-up son of Clark Griswold, which was originally immortalized on the screen by Chevy Chase. Christina Applegate has also joined the cast of "Vacation" as his wife, Debbie, and mother of their two kids, played by Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins, as reported by TV Guide.
Leslie Mann has taken over the role of Audrey Griswold in the series and her husband is played by the hunky Chris Hemsworth.
The only roles being reprised in this sequel are those of Clark and Ellen Griswold, played by Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. In the original, "National Lampoon's Vacation," the character of Rusty Griswold was played by Anthony Michael Hall and the character of Audrey was played by Dana Barron. There's been no word yet as to whether Randy Quaid will be back as cousin Eddie, who reprised the role in the "Christmas Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation" sequels.
In this sequel/reboot, Rusty, just like his father did before him, packs up the family in the station wagon and sets off for another trip across the country to visit the same theme park. The trip will also include a stopover to visit with his sister Audrey. The characters of Clark and Ellen Griswold have been toned back to cameos at this point, like a passing of the torch between two generations.
We can also look forward to the original adult themes that were ever so present in the first movie.
"'European Vacation' was the first time I saw breasts," Helms said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "So, yeah, this is going to be an R-rated movie, and I think it does a pretty good job earning the R."
