Time 100 Most Influential 2015: Univision Anchor Jorge Ramos Featured on Time 100 Cover [Watch]
Latino news anchor Jorge Ramos appears on the Time 100 list of most influential people.
He was also honored by being one of the people featured on the five different magazine covers for the issue.
Ramos is highly respected as a news anchor in the Latino community and around the world. This helped him earn one of the covers for the magazine's Time 100 issue. The others chosen for the cover were Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, musician Kanye West, dancer Misty Copeland, and actor Bradley Cooper.
Ramos was born in Mexico City. He appears on Spanish-speaking news programs like Univision's "Notciero Univision" and "Al Punto." Those two shows are some of the most watched Spanish-language news shows. Ramos also hosts an English-language Fusion show called "America with Jorge Ramos."
The respected journalist has been getting noticed for his interview with President Obama on the topic of immigration. He also brought a camera crew to show the hardships incurred by immigrants when they try to swim across the Rio Grande.
Ramos has even been called the "Walter Cronkite of Latino America," according to the New York Times. His appearance on the Time 100 and the cover of the magazine is a big moment for the 57-year-old anchor.
Ramos' appearance on the Time 100 could help the newer Fusion network gain more viewers. The Disney and Univision cable network is trying to reach to millenials, but in its two-year existence it has been a channel that few have yet to discover.
Ramos thinks that Fusion has potential and a bright future.
"In 2016, no one is going to be able to make it to the White House without Fusion or Univision," Ramos said.
In the Time 100 article about Ramos, CNN's Christiane Amanpour had many fine things to say about him.
She says Ramos "knows he has a voice and is not afraid to use it."
"He says he asks every question as if it's his last, determined to get an answer or go down trying," Amanpour wrote. "He knows he has a voice and is not afraid to use it."
Many consider Ramos as one of the most influential journalists going into the 2016 presidential election.
"With another presidential election coming up, if anyone can move this needle, Jorge Ramos can -- and he must," Amanpour said.
