Gwyneth Paltrow Fails to Accomplish Food Stamp Budget Challenge
Gwyneth Paltrow has failed to succeed in the challenge to live on a food stamp budget for a week, Wet Paint reports.
The actress and lifestyle guru recently posted a blog entry on her website GOOP explaining her decision to quit the challenge, which she found very difficult to accomplish.
After only completing four days of trying to live a week on $29 worth of groceries, Paltrow discovered that eating fresh foods and maintaining her healthy eating habits went out the window.
"My perspective has been forever altered by how difficult it was to eat wholesome, nutritious food on that budget, even for just a few days -- a challenge that 47 million Americans face every day, week, and year," she wrote.
Paltrow initially accepted celebrity chef Mario Batali's request that she join the Food Bank for New York City challenge as an effort to raise awareness on the financial struggles of many low income families and stop the cuts being made to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Us Weekly reports.
Though she failed to successfully complete the challenge, Paltrow donated to the food bank and came across another issue that she feels prevents many families from gaining access to fresh and nutritional foods.
"I am even more outraged that there is still not equal pay in the workplace," she wrote.
"I'm saying everyone should be able to afford fresh, real food. And if women were paid an equal wage, families might have more of a choice in the grocery aisles, not to mention in the rest of their lives."
After grading herself with a C- for failing to complete the challenge, Paltrow explained that she has a new found appreciation for being able to provide herself and her family with fresh food.
On the day she decided to quit the challenge, Paltrow revealed that she ate chicken, fresh vegetables and half a bag of licorice.
