Sarah Jessica Parker, 'Sex and the City' Star, Ready to Star in HBO Series About Being a Divorcee
Former "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to cable TV, this time starring in the new HBO series "Divorce."
The woman who made Carrie Bradshaw a household name during her seven-year run on "Sex and the City" recently sat down with E Online's Melissa Rivers for a candid discussion about her new role and her motivation for playing such a different character.
"It was an area of particular interest for me because I'm married, and I love being married, and I'm happily married," Parker said of her rationale for starring in the series.
The 50-year-old Parker has been married to actor husband Matthew Broderick since 1997.
"I think marriage is wonderfully complicated and wonderfully interesting, and everybody conducts their marriage differently," Parker said.
Given what she perceives as all the different ways different people define marriage and divorce, Parker insists it was an easy decision for her to assume the role.
"I think we're at an age where a lot of people have experienced it," she said. "Or are about to, or want to, or secretly wish they could. Or [are] so grateful that their marriage isn't at that state. And so I love the idea of telling that story."
Variety reports Parker will star as Frances, "a woman who suddenly reassesses her life and marriage and realizes that a fresh start is much harder than she thought."
As for the sense of style that has almost made her as famous as all her acting, Parker added her philosophy has long been to wear what she wants and not worry about being tied to a specific identity. Parker insists she considers herself an everywoman, someone takes pride and finds meaning in everything from running her kids to school to strapping on all the high-heel pumps she has become synonymous with sporting.
The series also stars Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon and Talia Balsam.
