'Empire' Cast, News & Spoilers: Lee Daniels, Taraji P. Henson Take Show to France; Second Season Will Focus on Cookie
"Empire" co-creator Lee Daniels and Taraji P. Henson, the leading lady of the wildly popular series, were recently in France to help kick off the show's French introduction.
Deadline reports the two heavyweights were front and center at the Series Mania festival, which prides itself on providing "a window for professionals and the public onto current and upcoming comedies and dramas from around the world."
The website added Daniels left fans spellbound with "stories of his and 'Empire's' journey to television."
The show has already been greenlight for a second season, with Daniels revealing much of it will "examine the backstory" of Henson's Cookie Lyon breakout character. As Henson approached the stage to join the conversation, a packed audience broke out in loud applause for the former "Baby Boy" star.
Described by Daniels as a sort of "Black Dynasty," Empire tells the story of a family's rise in the world of music and the lengths some family members are willing to go to in order to keep the family owned record label afloat.
The series also stars Terrence Howard as Lucious Lyon, Jussie Smollett as Jamal Lyon, Kaitlin Doubleday as Rhonda Lyon, Bryshere Gray as Hakeem Lyon and Trail Byers as Andre Lyon.
According to HollywoodLife, Season 2 of the show is already rumored to be possibly highlighted by guest starring appearances from the likes of Kanye west, Beyonce, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian.
"The phone has been ringing off the hook" a source told the website of the stars now expressing a willingness to star on the show. "They are lobbying in many different ways to make it happen."
The website adds many of the stars envision writing music and performing it on the show before a huge, music-loving audience.
Just last week, Daniels and Howard were named as defendants in a suit filed by Ron Newt seeking $1 billion in damages. TMZ reports Newt claims the theme of the show is based on his life story and that he once directly met with Howard to discuss the possibility of "The Hustle & Flow" actor playing the role of him in a feature film.
